Shopify development, end to end

We help merchants and agencies get more from Shopify — better themes, purpose-built apps, cleaner SEO, and a leaner app stack.

01

Theme development & enhancements

Your theme is the storefront customers judge you by. We customize and extend Online Store 2.0 themes so your team can merchandise freely in the theme editor — without stacking apps or hard-coding one-off changes that break on the next update.

The resultA theme your team can run day to day — and that stays fast as it grows.

What’s included
  • Custom sections, blocks, and templates built for the theme editor
  • Metafield- and metaobject-driven content your team can manage
  • Product, collection, and cart experience improvements
  • Theme upgrades and migrations without losing customizations
  • Accessibility fixes and Core Web Vitals performance tuning
02

Custom Shopify apps

When the App Store can’t meet a requirement, we build it. Custom apps run on Shopify’s own extension points, so features feel native to your store and admin, and you aren’t paying a monthly fee for capabilities you only half use.

The resultFeatures shaped around how you sell, not around an app vendor’s roadmap.

What’s included
  • Enhanced search and discovery — synonyms, SKU and attribute matching, merchandising rules
  • Storefront widgets and components delivered as theme app extensions
  • Checkout and customer account extensions
  • Shopify Functions for discount, shipping, and payment logic
  • Workflow automation triggered by orders, inventory, and customers
03

SEO & AI search audits

Shoppers now find products through Google and through AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini. We audit how both see your store, then fix what holds it back. That includes the apps themselves: overlapping SEO apps often emit duplicate meta tags and conflicting structured data that quietly undermine rankings.

The resultClean, consistent signals that help customers find you wherever they search.

What’s included
  • Technical audit of crawlability, canonicals, sitemaps, and indexing
  • Structured data review — products, reviews, breadcrumbs, and organization
  • Detection of duplicate tags and schema injected by competing apps
  • AI crawler access and product data that assistants can read and cite
  • A prioritized fix list — and implementation, not just a report
04

App audits & custom replacements

Most stores accumulate apps over time — each adding scripts, monthly fees, and another point of failure. We inventory your app stack, measure its real cost to speed and budget, and identify overlaps. Where it makes sense, we port the functionality you rely on into a custom app you control.

The resultFewer moving parts, lower recurring costs, and a faster storefront.

What’s included
  • Full inventory of installed apps, scripts, and leftover code
  • Impact on page speed, theme stability, and monthly spend
  • Overlap and conflict analysis across apps
  • Migration plans that protect existing data and workflows
  • Custom apps that replace several subscriptions with one
05

Admin tools & utilities

If your team lives in spreadsheets, bulk CSV edits, or copy-and-paste routines, there’s usually a better way. We build admin extensions and private tools that fit inside Shopify admin and handle the repetitive work reliably.

The resultHours back every week, with fewer manual errors.

What’s included
  • Admin extensions that add actions and panels where your team works
  • Bulk editors for products, metafields, and inventory
  • Data imports, exports, and scheduled syncs
  • Custom reports and operational dashboards
  • Integrations with ERP, warehouse, accounting, and CRM systems
06

Ongoing care & support

Shopify ships platform changes constantly, and stores keep evolving. We stay on hand to maintain what we build, keep apps current with Shopify’s APIs, and take on improvements as your priorities change.

The resultFewer surprises, and someone who already knows your store.

What’s included
  • Maintenance for custom apps and theme code
  • Shopify API version upgrades and platform changes
  • Periodic SEO and app-stack health checks
  • A standing backlog of improvements, delivered steadily
Ways to work together

Start small or go all in

Pick the engagement that fits where your store is today. An audit is often the best first step — it shows exactly where effort will pay off.

Audit

A focused review of your SEO, apps, or theme, with a prioritized list of what to fix and why. A low-commitment way to start.

Project

A scoped build — a theme enhancement, custom app, or admin tool — delivered against an agreed plan and timeline.

Ongoing partnership

Steady monthly development and support for stores that want a dependable Shopify team on call.

How we work

A clear path from problem to launch

Every engagement follows the same steady process, whether it’s a focused audit or a full custom app build.

  1. Discover

We review your store, theme, and apps, and talk through what’s slowing your team or your customers down.

  2. Plan

You get a clear scope: what we recommend, what it involves, and what will measurably improve.

  3. Build

We work on a development theme or app first, with regular check-ins, so nothing changes on your live store unexpectedly.

  4. Launch & support

We ship carefully, confirm the results, and stay available for refinements and ongoing care.

FAQ

Common questions

What Shopify development services does Maple and Sketch offer?

Maple and Sketch is a Shopify development studio. We enhance and extend Shopify themes, build custom Shopify apps (including search, storefront widgets, checkout extensions, and Shopify Functions), audit SEO and AI search visibility, audit and replace third-party apps with custom code, and build admin tools and integrations. We also provide ongoing maintenance and support.

Can you add features to our existing Shopify theme instead of rebuilding it?

Yes. Most theme work is extending what you already have: custom sections and blocks for the theme editor, metafield-driven content, product and collection page improvements, and performance fixes. We work on a duplicate theme first, so your live store is not affected until changes are approved.

Why can multiple SEO apps hurt a Shopify store’s rankings?

Many SEO apps inject their own meta tags and structured data (JSON-LD). With two or more installed — or with a theme that already outputs schema — a page can end up with duplicate titles, conflicting product markup, or multiple competing canonical signals. Search engines may ignore the markup or pick the wrong version. An audit identifies which source should own each signal and removes the rest.

How do AI assistants like ChatGPT and Perplexity find Shopify products?

AI assistants rely on crawlers and search indexes to read your pages. They favor stores that allow their crawlers, serve clear and complete product information, use accurate structured data, and describe products in plain language. Our SEO and AI search audit checks crawler access, structured data, and content clarity, then fixes the gaps.

When does it make sense to replace a Shopify app with a custom app?

A custom app is worth considering when you pay for an app but use only a small part of it, when several apps overlap, when an app slows your storefront with heavy scripts, or when no app fits your workflow. An app audit compares the cost, performance impact, and risk of each option before anything is replaced.

Do you work with agencies and Shopify Plus stores?

Yes. We work directly with merchants and as a development partner for agencies, on both standard Shopify and Shopify Plus stores — including Plus-only features such as checkout extensibility.

How do we start a project?

Email [email protected] with your store URL, what you want to improve, and your timeline. A good first step is often an audit, which produces a prioritized list of fixes before any build work is scoped.
